Who's for Immigration?

President Obama recently addressed the country about getting some type of immigration reform passed this year. When the president addresses the country it's broadcasted on all news stations live. You are able to hear him speak and do not have to rely on a third party source on what was said. We all know how news outlets can twist and misinterpret stories. President Obama is urging Congress to pass some type of immigration reform this year, saying that this will be beneficial for the country. He talks about former President Bush supporting immigration reform, as well as S. 744 passing with bipartisan support in the Senate. I think part of his speech captured in this clip is mainly to address the Republicans of the House. The media is portraying the Republican party as not wanting immigration reform or hindering it. The Republican party is taking a real beating in the media lately because of the government shutdown, and now on their stances on immigration reform. Public opinion polls already show American people are not happy with the party and the media is up playing that. We can only wait to see how immigration will play out in

Arrested for our Stance

This video was posted by The Real News (therealnews.com) and it shows first hand accounts of some of the protestors who were arrested at the capitol who were calling for immigration reform. This video shows us how a website like YouTube gives journalist the avenue to allow viewers to hear from the sources mouth their stances and what they represent. They could have easily written an article on the protest, but they instead chose to interview and use it for video footage for a better effect.

A little more about Real News, on their About Us section they state they are not government funded, corporate funded, nor do they use advertising, they rely on viewer funding.

This is my first time hearing about them, but I will start viewing their website more.

We Want Reform Now!

The media is showing how the healthcare bill is taking such a beating in Congress and there are protestors demonstrating everyday for immigration reform. I think the media is trying to come off as immigration reformist not caring about other issues besides pushing reform. There has been other issues that have come up such as Syria, Obamacare, and the government shutdown.
