This video was posted by The Real News (therealnews.com) and it shows first hand accounts of some of the protestors who were arrested at the capitol who were calling for immigration reform. This video shows us how a website like YouTube gives journalist the avenue to allow viewers to hear from the sources mouth their stances and what they represent. They could have easily written an article on the protest, but they instead chose to interview and use it for video footage for a better effect.
A little more about Real News, on their About Us section they state they are not government funded, corporate funded, nor do they use advertising, they rely on viewer funding.
This is my first time hearing about them, but I will start viewing their website more.
It is good to see that there are still media outlets and journalists that still want to report the true stories because it is hard to find when the more popular media stations are biased these days. In addition, I am glad that the real news captured this video of protestors for immigration reform being treated unjustly.
ReplyDeleteI think it is definitely a bigger impact when people can actually see the events occurring. while reading about a news story does have some sort of impact, a video certainly heightens it a little more. I certainly agree that social media sites, such as YouTube, allows just about anyone to be a "journalist." These sites get more people involved in politics and allows them to voice their opinion on matters. I do not follow "Real News" but I am certainly going to check them out. Good post and thank you for sharing this YouTube page!
ReplyDeleteThis video shows the power of protests. Just like the civil rights movement action wasn't taken till african american spoke out on the injustices of society and lead peaceful protests. Their needs to be a better implementation of getting citizenship instead of just deporting millions of people they want to be apart of the American lifestyle so give them an opportunity to.
ReplyDeleteThis is so refreshing! I love it! It is good to see a news source that still reports on real events occurring and in-person. Most major news sources just bicker and argue back and forth about the same topic for weeks with no real, on-hands reporting. It is also nice to see that they are only viewer funded, not government or corporate funded. This coincides with their political information being objective. Their outlet doesn't have to sway one-way or the other because of government support. Using video really captures the essence of the subject as well. Thanks for the post. More people need to be in the know about what is politically going on and Real News seems like a reliable source for that information.
