AFL-CIO Ads Against Republicans
This video was uploaded to YouTube by the AFL-CIO and it is discussing (bashing) Republican's stances on immigration reform. To me I think the ad is extremely harsh, but this is politics and we know people don't play fair. What do you think about it?
While I think immigration reform is needed, you're right - the ad is harsh. It creates a strawman which really takes away from the ad's argument. Republicans are not simply keeping immigrants from coming into the country, there is a lot more complication to this - to much to really include in the ad. This is why the ad really shouldn't be created at all. It makes the Democrats look stupid and further enforces stereotypes of Republicans.
I agree with you. The as is harsh and uncalled for. It is implying that anyone that is against immigration reform is for getting rid of all illegal immigrants. I think this goes hand in hand with the presidential ads in the sense that they are very negative and completely misconstrued. I also agree with you in that politics is not played fair; the politicians are in it to win it, and they will do whatever it takes to win the election. Overall, I think you posted a good ad that illustrates how politicians are in regards to embellishing situations.
The ad is extremely harsh on Republicans because they oppose comprehensive immigration reform. That being said, why do some Republicans feel the need to say these things about human beings? I believe, although I don't agree with the ad, that the ad shows the underlying political problem the Republican party faces as a whole with minorities. If they don't find a way to reach them they can become a minority party for years to come. I also agree with you that politics is not fair but you must remember politics is al about power. Whatever they can do to remain in power is "fair game" in their minds.
I was looking at these ads just the other day. Here is a link to another one that features Paul Broun (GA Congressman running for Senate) http://www.aflcio.org/Blog/Political-Action-Legislation/New-AFL-CIO-Ads-Tell-Republicans-It-s-Time-to-Act-Now-on-Immigration-Reform This is an interesting ad campaign by AFL-CIO. I'll be interested to see how effective they are.
Extremely harsh ad...Immigration reform isn't the easist issue at hand. Republicans always get the flack for failure to reform immigration policy but its both sides Democrats and Republicans
WOW talk about Harsh. This comes down on Republicans pretty hard and I don't think this is going to go over well with voters. We are tired of the liberal vs. republican bashing. I want to see the rhetoric coming to a stop and some crossing the aisle happening. Our congress and our country is too polarized right now and nothing good is coming from it.
